What Is Element In Chemistry. Elements. In this article we will learn what is element and elements. An element is defined as “A substance in which all the atoms are chemically identical is called an Element”. For example: Gold. Gold is an element because it consists only atoms of gold.

There are totally 118 elements discovered now yet. Out of these 118 elements 92 elements are natural and 26 elements are synthetic (manufactured in laboratory).

All the elements are represented by their specific symbols which are helpful to write names of elements quickly and easily. For example hydrogen is represented by H, iron is represented by Fe etc. each element is identified by its atomic number. For example element with atomic number 1 is hydrogen, element with atomic number 7 is nitrogen etc.
